The Head of Public Relations for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DO II Desmond Ackah, has said that the ongoing challenges regarding fire safety will persist until traders and market managers fully cooperate in implementing improved safety protocols.
In a recent interview, Mr. Ackah stressed the importance of shop owners acquiring life-saving equipment to protect their premises.
“Not until traders and market managers come to terms with this simple fact, we are going to have challenges enforcing some of these protocols,” he said.
Mr. Ackah highlighted that it is the responsibility of traders and market managers to procure life-saving devices to safeguard their investments.
“Once we have the financial muscle to go and rent a shop, it is our responsibility to acquire these life-saving gadgets to protect our investment,” he advised.
He added that, with education, intensified efforts and the collaborations he mentioned, they should be able to nip some of these issues.
“So we believe that, with the education, with the intensified efforts and the collaborations, that l have talked about, we should be able to nip some of these issues,” he concluded.
