The results were announced on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the constituency collation centre at St. Kizito Catholic Church in Nima, following the close of polls. The Returning Officer confirmed that Baba Jamal secured 10,884 votes, representing more than 63 percent of the total valid votes cast.
His closest contender, Baba Ali Yussif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 4,009 votes. Independent candidate Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda placed third with 1,885 votes.
Another independent candidate, David Kannor, garnered 104 votes, while Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) polled 43 votes.
A total of 17,048 voters cast their ballots across 113 polling stations in the constituency. Of that number, 120 ballots were rejected.
The Ayawaso East Constituency has existed since the inception of the Fourth Republic. Historical records indicate that the NDC has won all nine previous parliamentary elections in the constituency, making this by-election victory the party’s tenth consecutive win in the area.
