World Cup 2026: Samuel Inkoom backs Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo to lead Ghana to final

Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom believes Antoine Semenyo’s “explosive” form could propel Ghana to their first-ever FIFA World Cup final in 2026.

Speaking to Connect FM, the 2010 World Cup veteran claimed that the Manchester City forward holds the key to an unprecedented tournament run for Ghana.

“If Semenyo stays consistent, Ghana can make it to the finals of the 2026 World Cup,” Inkoom declared, sparking fresh optimism among fans in Accra and beyond.

Since his high-profile move to Manchester City, the 26-year-old Semenyo has transitioned from a rising talent into one of Europe’s most feared attackers.

Under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, he has added a clinical edge to his game, combining raw pace and power with a composure that has redefined the City frontline.

Inkoom, who was a mainstay in the legendary Ghana squad that reached the quarter-finals in South Africa, insists this current generation possesses a unique firepower.

For many, Semenyo is the “difference-maker” who can bridge the gap between being competitive and being champions.

The former defender knows exactly what it takes to compete at the highest level, and his bold prediction reflects a growing belief within the national camp.

The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, but the path through North America will be a rigorous test of their credentials.

Ghana have been drawn into Group L, facing a diverse range of tactical challenges across three iconic host cities.

The campaign kicks off on 17 June against Panama in Toronto, followed by a high-stakes encounter with England in Boston on 23 June.

They conclude the group stage in Philadelphia on 27 June against Croatia. The fixture against England is already being touted as a must-watch, potentially pitting Semenyo against several of his Premier League teammates.

Semenyo himself has shared this confidence, recently stating that Ghana is ready to go toe-to-toe with the world’s best.

While the Black Stars have previously been the “nearly men” of African football on the world stage, Inkoom believes that if their star man continues to shine in Manchester, the world will be watching Ghana in the final come July.
