Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing 23 across Upper West, Savannah regions

Shariff Abdulai, widely known as “Cristos,” has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in Wa after admitting to the killing of 23 people across several communities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 4, the Upper West Regional Police Command said the convict confessed to murdering 16 people in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.

Police arrested Abdulai following what authorities described as sustained intelligence-led operations and investigations.

He was later committed by the District Magistrate Court and appeared before the High Court in Wa on March 4, 2026. During proceedings, Abdulai, who had legal representation, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The presiding judge, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, handed down a life sentence with hard labour based on the accused person’s own plea.

Authorities say Abdulai will serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The Upper West Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring the public that it will continue to work to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
