Nigerian music star Asake has revealed that his father initially opposed his decision to pursue a career in music, a move that led him to leave home at the age of 15.
Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Sungba” hitmaker recounted how his determination to follow his passion forced him to defy his father’s wishes.
“The father who gave birth to me is more stubborn than I am… I got to a point where I wanted to leave home to do what I’m doing now, but my father said no. I just took off regardless. I was 15 then and focused on where I was going,” he said.
Despite their past differences, Asake emphasized that his love and respect for his father remain unwavering. “Even if he points a gun at me, till eternity he will always be my dad, and I will still show him the same love,” he added.
The singer’s comments come against the backdrop of previous family-related controversies that drew widespread public attention. In 2025, his father, Fatai Ololade, a stroke survivor, made headlines after publicly appealing for financial assistance, alleging neglect from his son.
The situation was further complicated by claims from Asake’s alleged partner, Adijat, who accused the artiste of neglecting her and their daughter. The allegations sparked backlash online, with fans and public figures urging reconciliation.
However, the tensions appeared to ease shortly after, as reports indicated that Asake had reached out to his father. In a follow-up video, Fatai Ololade confirmed that the singer had agreed to cover his medical expenses, provide ongoing support, and secure a new home for him.
In recent developments, Asake has also been seen making generous gestures toward his family, including gifting his mother a car during Ramadan and reportedly presenting his father with a Toyota Land Cruiser 2025.
Reaffirming his stance, the singer noted that he holds both his parents in high regard, signaling a renewed commitment to family despite past challenges.
