Kofi Eiphos urges Charterhouse to introduce diaspora category

Germany-based Ghanaian highlife artiste Kofi Eiphos has called on Charterhouse to introduce a dedicated award category for Ghanaian musicians based abroad.

His proposal comes on the back of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026 nominations, which he says do not adequately reflect the contributions of diaspora artistes, despite their growing influence and output.

In an interview on Hot 93.9FM’s Ay3 HU with Big Kay, the musician—known privately as Isaac Oteng—expressed concern that the current awards framework leaves out a significant portion of Ghana’s music ecosystem.

He argued that creating space for diaspora-based musicians would not only recognise their efforts but also strengthen connections between the international Ghanaian music community and the local industry.

“It would be extremely appropriate for Charterhouse to create a category for abroad-based artistes… so they can also be acknowledged for their hard work,” he stated.

Kofi Eiphos further noted that such a move would promote inclusivity, encourage collaboration, and enhance the global reach of Ghanaian music, ultimately contributing to the industry’s long-term growth and sustainability.
