Ghanaian highlife star Bisa Kdei has shared his thoughts on politics and the challenges facing the Ghana Music Rights Organisation, stressing the urgent need for reforms to the music royalty system.
In an interview on JoyPrime with host George Quaye, the “Mansa” hitmaker revealed that although he recognises the power of politics in driving national development, he does not envision himself pursuing it as a full-time career.
Instead, Bisa Kdei indicated that his focus would be on improving structures within the music industry, particularly the collection and distribution of royalties to artists.
He expressed concern that the current system is inefficient and often fails to ensure that musicians receive their rightful earnings. According to him, a lack of transparency and accountability continues to undermine the effectiveness of royalty management in Ghana.
“The music system here doesn’t work well, and so when the money is collected, it doesn’t go to the right people,” he stated.
The award-winning musician believes that with the right reforms, institutions like GHAMRO can better serve the interests of Ghanaian artistes, ensuring fairness and sustainability within the industry.
