High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has secured victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, earning the party’s ticket for the upcoming by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The closely fought primaries attracted significant public and party attention following allegations of inducement and vote-buying involving some aspirants.
Despite the concerns, the exercise went ahead under strict supervision by party officials and security personnel.
Provisional results released after the polls showed Baba Jamal leading with 431 votes, followed by Hajia Amina Adam with 399 votes. Mohammed Ramne polled 88 votes, Dr Yakubu Azimdow secured 45 votes, while Najib Sani obtained one vote.
Earlier in the day, the NDC’s national leadership issued a statement condemning what it described as widespread incidents of bribery and inducement at certain polling centres.
The statement, signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, announced the immediate commencement of investigations into the reported irregularities.
