The Accra High Court has adjourned proceedings in a case involving the family head of late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba after an injunction was filed to halt a planned “celebration of life” event in his honour.
Lawyers representing the Abusuapanin, Kofi Owusu, members of Daddy Lumba’s immediate family, and gospel musician Papa Shee appeared before the court on March 5, 2026, for a hearing on the matter.
The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the case to March 23, 2026, to allow the court to hear arguments from both sides.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, a lawyer representing Daddy Lumba’s immediate family explained that the idea of organising a celebration of life for the late musician was not new and should not be grounds for legal action.
According to him, several events have already been organised by individuals outside the family to honour the Highlife icon, including gatherings held in the United Kingdom.
“The celebration of life for Daddy Lumba has seen even people who are not family members organising their own events in the UK. However, the event that Lumba’s sister and wife intend to organise has been met with an injunction filed by the Abusuapanin. The court has therefore adjourned the case to March 23, 2026, to hear both parties,” the lawyer stated.
On February 2, 2026, veteran Hiplife artiste turned evangelist Papa Shee announced plans to organise another funeral ceremony in honour of the late musician.
He revealed that the event, titled “The Celebration of the Life of Daddy Lumba,” is scheduled to take place in Accra on March 28 and March 29, 2026.
According to Papa Shee, the ceremony will involve members of Daddy Lumba’s immediate family who were dissatisfied with how the earlier funeral arrangements were handled by the family head, Kofi Owusu.
Among those expected to attend the event are the musician’s sister, Ernestina Fosu; his first wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh; and Yaw Opoku, popularly known as Wofa Yaw Opoku, as well as other individuals associated with the group known as the Team Legal Wives faction.
