‘GoldBod is not an IT firm to purchase such expensive laptops’ – Richard Sumah denounces GH₵332,000 expenditure

A leading member of the United Party (UP), Mr. Richard Sumah, has raised concerns regarding GoldBod’s recent decision to purchase 15 laptops for a staggering total of GH₵332,000.

He described the expenditure as extravagant and unnecessary, especially given that GoldBod is not an information technology (IT) firm.

Mr. Sumah argued that there is no justification for such a costly acquisition, stating that the company could have opted for more affordable machines that would better suit its operational needs.

“The only challenge I have is that GoldBod is not an IT firm. There’s no need to buy laptops costing GH₵21,500 each just for creating folders, uploading, and downloading documents,” he asserted during an interview on GHone.

He further contended that neither the NPP nor the NDC governments could claim ignorance regarding such procurement practices, emphasising that political interests often influence decisions of this nature.

Mr. Sumah added that the money could have been used more efficiently, explaining that the GH₵332,000 spent on 15 laptops could have purchased at least 30 budget-friendly computers.

He opined that this approach could significantly reduce wasteful spending and ensure better value for public funds.
