Government declares Friday April 3 and Monday April 6 public holidays

The government of Ghana through the Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, April 3, 2026 (Good Friday) and Monday, April 6, 2026 (Easter Monday) as statutory public holidays to be observed nationwide.

In a statement signed by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak the Minister of Interior, the government emphasised that these holidays form part of the Easter celebrations and should be respected across the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 3rd April 2026, and Monday, 6th April, mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively, which are Statutory Public Holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country, “the stated read.

Good Friday is a solemn occasion for Christians, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

The day is marked by church services, fasting, prayer, and reflection on the sacrifice believed to have brought salvation to humanity. Many churches are expected to hold special services, including re-enactments of biblical events leading to the crucifixion.

Easter Monday, in contrast, is celebrated with joy and recreation. Families and friends traditionally gather for picnics, travel and community events.
