President Mahama appoints Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria

President John Mahama has named Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on March 1, 2026.

“Congratulations, Baba Sadiq on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I have no doubt you will hold Ghana’s flag aloft and make the youth of our continent proud, “the Minister of Foreign Affairs and regional integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said on X on March 1, 2026.

As High Commissioner-Designate, Abu is expected to spearhead initiatives that enhance trade, cultural exchange and diplomatic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

His role will officially commence following Nigeria’s formal acceptance and completion of standard diplomatic procedures.

The new appointment follows the recall of the previous High Commissioner, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal.

He was recalled on February 7, 2026, after allegations of voter inducement surfaced following his participation and victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
