Popular Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Yaa Brefo has sparked widespread discussion on social media after revealing that she has relocated to the United States and is now working as an Uber driver.
In a video shared on TikTok, the media personality disclosed that she had moved from Ghana to the U.S. to pursue new opportunities and had chosen rideshare driving as her current occupation.
Addressing criticism that followed her announcement, Nana Yaa Brefo stated that she remains unfazed by negative comments, emphasizing that there is dignity in honest work.
“I told you I was working as an Uber driver in the United States and received a lot of comments, some positive and some negative. I think I explained that there is a need for me to do something here,” she said.
She further explained the process of registering and operating as an Uber driver in the United States, highlighting differences between the system there and what pertains in Ghana.
The broadcaster also promised to document her journey abroad and share more insights into her rideshare experience.
Her announcement has since generated mixed reactions online. While some social media users questioned the state of journalism and opportunities within Ghana’s media landscape, others pointed to the earning potential and flexibility associated with Uber driving in the United States.
