Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has dismissed long-standing claims that he travelled to Jamaica to study dancehall music during the early stages of his career.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, the superstar clarified that he never left Ghana to learn the genre. Instead, he revealed that he spent several years indoors teaching himself music production and perfecting his craft.
According to him, the period many people believed he had travelled abroad was actually a time of intense personal development and preparation for his comeback to the music scene.
“I didn’t travel to Jamaica in my struggling days to learn dancehall. I was in the room for seven years learning music production and working hard to blow,” he said.
The award-winning artiste explained that his rapid growth and improvement in music led many to assume he had studied the craft overseas.
“What I was learning was so fast that people thought I had travelled elsewhere to learn,” he added.
Shatta Wale further revealed that he relied heavily on the internet to build his skills, spending countless hours researching and practising music production on his own.
“I was in a small room. I learned the beats all by myself, on my own, on the internet. Anytime I didn’t understand anything about music production, I went online to study,” he stated.
