Accra is preparing to lace up its running shoes as the annual Independence Day Run returns to the capital on March 7.
Organised by the Millennium Marathon Sports Company, the event promises to bring together elite long-distance athletes and fitness enthusiasts for a morning of high-energy competition.
The race is timed to coincide with Ghana’s national celebrations, offering a healthy, community-focused way to mark the occasion.
The starter’s pistol will fire at 06:30 GMT, sending runners on a course that culminates at the University of Ghana Legon Sports Stadium.
Participants can expect a well-coordinated route through the heart of Accra, finishing at one of the city’s most iconic sporting landmarks.
The organisers have confirmed that the stakes are high for this year’s competitors.
Speaking on behalf of the event, Communications Lead Ernest Buamah noted that top finishers will receive attractive prizes, while special recognition will be given to outstanding performers across various categories.
Furthermore, every participant who successfully crosses the finish line will be presented with a commemorative medal to mark their achievement.
Registration is now officially open to the public. Aspiring runners can secure their spot by dialling *800*17# on any local mobile network or by visiting the official portal at www.millenniummarathon.com.
Early registration is encouraged to ensure a place in what is expected to be one of the most popular sporting events in the 2026 Accra calendar.
