A United States–based Ghanaian doctor, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, has stated that Ghana must work with other West African neighbours to improve stability in the sub‑region.
Speaking on GHOne TV, he highlighted the importance of strengthening alliances with neighbouring countries to combat rising security threats that have affected trade and stability.
“First, Ghana must work with other West African Neighbors to improve stability in the sub-region, Burkina Faso obviously is on our border and Mali is fairly close,” he stated.
He further emphasised that it is unfortunate that tomatoes that used to be grown in Ghana now require enterprising traders to travel far away to buy them, often leading to attacks along the way.
Dr. Kennedy stressed that Ghana should produce some of the items people travel outside the country to purchase.
“Maybe we need to do better with our economy so that some of these things people need to go out to buy, we can produce it locally,” he advised.
In light of recent incidents, he added that Ghanaians should console those who lost family members among the tomato traders during the Burkina Faso terrorist attacks and then work to improve security.
