Ghanaian internationals Kamal Sowah and Andre Ayew both found the net in a pulsating 3-3 draw against Eredivisie heavyweights Feyenoord on Sunday, March 8.
In a match that saw the momentum swing wildly at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, the Black Stars pair proved pivotal in securing a hard-fought point for the hosts.
Despite finishing the match with ten men, NAC Breda’s spirited performance provided a significant boost to their top-flight survival hopes.
The visitors took an early lead through Ayase Ueda, but the hosts responded with intent. Kamal Sowah, who has been a mainstay in the side with 26 appearances this term, finally ended his season-long wait for a goal.
Having previously registered only one assist this campaign, Sowah showed composure to slot home a well-taken equaliser.
The strike marks a turning point for the forward, who has faced scrutiny over his output in front of goal since the season began.
The drama intensified in the second half as veteran campaigner Andre Ayew made his mark.
Since his arrival in the January transfer window, the former Swansea City and West Ham United man has been searching for his clinical edge.
He found it in spectacular fashion, rising highest to power home a header that gave Breda a 3-2 lead.
It was his first goal for the club, momentarily sending the home support into raptures as they sensed an upset against the Rotterdam giants.
The lead was short-lived, however. Feyenoord’s Ueda struck again to restore parity, and the challenge for Breda grew even steeper when they were reduced to ten men following a late red card.
The Dutch side held firm under intense pressure to see out the draw, moving them a step closer to Eredivisie safety.
