Ghanaians react after Safo Jnr addresses motives for establishing church

Kwadwo Safo Jnr has ignited fresh conversations online after sharing his views on the motivation behind establishing a church, amid an ongoing succession dispute within the family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

In a video posted on TikTok on Monday, February 23, 2026, Safo Jnr also known as Nana Safo Akofena stated that anyone who sets up a church primarily for financial gain could have a “questionable” character.

“The moment the idea to start a church is based upon finances or money, your character becomes a bit questionable,” he said. “Because my belief is that worshipping or serving God is a calling. Now, when you start to look for money from that, who sent you?”

He acknowledged biblical teachings that allow preachers to earn a living from their ministry but stressed that financial reward should not be the driving force behind founding a church.

“God understands that everyone who serves Him wholeheartedly has to survive. Scripture says the preacher feeds from their craft.

But the moment that becomes the inception the idea that starts the whole thing the character becomes questionable,” he added.

The comments come months after the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and Kantanka Automobiles, who passed away on September 11, 2025.

His daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya announced his passing.

Following his death, reports emerged of a succession dispute between Adwoa Safo and her brother, Kwadwo Safo Jnr, who previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Kantanka Automobiles.

In a statement dated October 6, 2025, the Safo family cautioned the public against engaging in business dealings with Safo Jnr, intensifying speculation about internal disagreements.

After the statement, the businessman largely withdrew from the public eye before recently resurfacing on social media.

Safo Jnr’s latest remarks have triggered a new wave of speculation, with many Ghanaians questioning whether he may be hinting at plans to establish his own church.

While he did not directly announce any intention to start a ministry, the timing of his comments amid the unresolved family tensions has fueled online debate about his future direction.
