Ghana’s Ambassador to the UAE has hailed the nation’s para-athletics stars as “gallant” after a four-medal sweep at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.
The impressive performance provides a significant boost for the team as they eye the final qualification spots for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Ghanaian delegation stood out in the heat of Dubai, led by a dominant display from Zainabu Issah.
Competing in the throwing events, Issah secured two silver medals in the Women’s Discus and Women’s Shot Put.
Her consistent form marks her as a serious contender for the upcoming games in Scotland, demonstrating the growing strength of Ghana’s field athletes on the world stage.
On the track, Hayford Addai proved to be the man of the hour. After battling to a hard-fought bronze in the Men’s 400 metres, Addai found an extra gear in the shorter distance.
He stunned the field in the Men’s 100 metres, sprinting to a gold medal and cementing his status as one of West Africa’s most exciting para-sprinting talents.
Speaking at a reception for the athletes, Hammed Rashid Tunde, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, praised the team’s resilience.
“These gallant daughter and sons of Mother Ghana participated in myriad competitions and proved that the horizons of our dear people of determination are boundless,” the Ambassador said.
Ambassador Tunde extended his gratitude on behalf of the Diplomatic Mission, offering a traditional “Ayekoo” to both the competitors and the technical staff.
He noted that their success serves as a beacon for the next generation of Ghanaian athletes.
The Dubai Grand Prix served as a critical direct qualification event for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
With four medals in the bag, Team Ghana now shifts its focus toward the final stages of preparation for Glasgow.
The team’s success in the UAE is expected to spark renewed interest in para-sports funding and support back home as the countdown to 2026 begins.
