Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Yaa Brefo has dismissed long-standing claims that she earned as much as GH¢50,000 a month during her time as a journalist in Ghana, describing the figure as completely inaccurate.
Speaking candidly about rumours surrounding her income and relocation to the United States, Nana Yaa Brefo said while her salary was decent, it was nowhere near the amount widely speculated online.
According to her, the exaggerated reports created unrealistic expectations, with some people reaching out to her for financial assistance based on the assumption that she was earning tens of thousands of cedis monthly.
She stressed that journalism in Ghana does not pay as lucratively as many assume, adding that if she had depended solely on her salary to rent and cover all expenses, life would not have been as comfortable as outsiders imagined.
Her clarification challenges the narrative that she was among the highest-paid media personalities in the country, insisting that the GH¢50,000 monthly salary claim was false.
Nana Yaa Brefo also reiterated that financial struggles were not the reason for her relocation, emphasising that her decision to move was primarily centred on her son’s well-being.
