A joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Ghana Police Service has led to the arrest of a self-styled international marriage counsellor, Rev Dr Ebenezer Conduah, over offences related to child sexual abuse material.
The arrest was effected in the early hours of March 6, as the nation prepared to celebrate its 69th Ghana Independence Day.
According to officials, the suspect is alleged to have engaged in activities involving child sexual abuse material, in violation of Sections 62 and 63 of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 (Act 1038).
Investigations indicate that the abuse involved a 17-year-old minor and is believed to have occurred over a period of four years.
Preliminary investigations by the Cyber Security Authority uncovered recordings and online postings allegedly made by the accused on international pornography websites.
Following his arrest, Rev Dr Conduah was arraigned before a court and remanded into custody for three weeks to allow investigators to complete their work.
Authorities commended the efforts of the cyber security team for their swift action in the case, stressing that individuals who violate Ghana’s cyber laws will be pursued and held accountable regardless of their status.
Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting minors and ensuring that perpetrators of cyber-enabled crimes face the full rigours of the law.
