Ghanaian songstress Sista Afia has revealed that her time in the United Kingdom was marked by severe financial and emotional struggles, a difficult experience that eventually led her to return to Ghana and fully pursue her music career.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with entertainment journalist Zionfelix on YouTube, the singer shared details of the challenges she faced while working as a nurse, describing the period as deeply overwhelming.
Sista Afia disclosed that financial difficulties made it nearly impossible for her to afford rent, leaving her without a permanent place to stay. As a result, she was forced to move between friends’ apartments and, in some instances, sleep in her car, which contained all her belongings.
She explained that the instability and uncertainty significantly affected her mental and emotional well-being, leaving her feeling isolated and discouraged at a young age.
The musician noted that the situation became so unbearable that she had no choice but to return to Ghana, a decision she described as necessary for her survival and recovery.
Upon her return, Sista Afia said her life began to improve. With access to her family’s home, she did not have to worry about accommodation, and reconnecting with friends she had grown up with helped restore her confidence and happiness.
She described her return to Ghana as a life-changing moment that gave her the opportunity to rebuild herself and focus on her passion for music.
Since then, Sista Afia has risen to prominence in Ghana’s music industry, earning recognition for her talent and resilience.
Her experience, she said, serves as a reminder that difficult moments can often lead to new beginnings and greater purpose.
