Michael B. Jordan wins his first Oscar for Dual Role in ‘Sinners’

American actor Michael B. Jordan delivered one of the standout moments at the Academy Awards after winning the Best Actor award for his performance in the film Sinners.

Jordan earned the honour for his powerful portrayal of twin characters Smoke and Stack, a performance that drew widespread praise from both audiences and critics throughout the awards season.

The actor appeared visibly stunned when his name was announced during the ceremony held on Sunday in Los Angeles, as the audience erupted in loud applause. The win marks his first Oscar.

During his emotional acceptance speech, Jordan took time to thank his family members who were present at the ceremony, including his father, who he revealed had flown all the way from Ghana to Los Angeles to support him on the big night.

He also expressed deep appreciation to filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who directed the film and has cast him in every project he has made.

“You gave me the opportunity and the space to be seen,” Jordan said while acknowledging the director.

Jordan also paid tribute to Black actors who paved the way for him, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, and Halle Berry.

He said he was proud to stand “amongst those giants” and honour their legacy through his achievement.

Jordan’s victory capped a strong awards season for “Sinners,” a film that also made history with 16 nominations, the most ever for a single movie in the history of the Oscars.
