Seven Ghanaians feared dead in terror attack on traders in Burkina Faso

At least seven Ghanaian nationals have reportedly been killed following a terrorist attack on tomato traders in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Initial reports circulating on social media indicated that the victims were Ghanaian male tomato buyers and truck drivers transporting produce at the time of the нападение. The trucks were said to have been targeted while in the town.

A Ghanaian journalist, Alhaji Gbangbanku, who first reported the incident on Saturday ahead of an official statement, alleged that the attackers spared female traders but shot the men. He further claimed that the armed group behind the assault set several trucks belonging to the traders on fire.

According to Gbangbanku, the attackers were members of the Islamist militant group Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM). He shared images purportedly showing some of the deceased victims and charred remains of trucks destroyed in the attack

The President of the Tomato and Onion Truck Drivers Association, Eric Tuffour, also confirmed the incident in an interview with JoyNews, although he did not specify the number of casualties.

Tuffour stated that the attackers allegedly targeted the Ghanaian traders after suspecting that their enemies had infiltrated the area. He explained that the gunmen opened fire on male passengers while leaving the women unharmed.

According to him, all men seated on top of one of the trucks were shot dead. He added that one driver reportedly locked himself inside his vehicle in an attempt to escape but was burned to death when the attackers set the truck ablaze.

International news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) also reported fatalities resulting from the assault.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed the incident and said the country’s Embassy in Burkina Faso is working closely with local authorities to visit the attack scene.

The ministry noted that efforts are underway to gather further information and assist in identifying and supporting any affected Ghanaian nationals.
