Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, says he no longer considers himself a member of what he describes as the “fake” wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng criticised the party’s current leadership and internal processes, describing the way its affairs are being handled as tantamount to corruption.
He cited the party’s most recent presidential primaries, which produced a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, as a clear example of what he termed unacceptable practices.
“The present NPP is not the NPP I used to know. It’s fake. What I see now is not the party I knew,” he said.

When asked whether he still considered himself a member of the party, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng replied:
“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It’s virtual, and the members are there in the background.”
He alleged that the presidential primary process was compromised, claiming that party officials used coercion, inducements and intimidation to influence delegates.
“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer. They twisted the arms of the weak, bribed delegates and intimidated others to secure the flagbearer for the 2024 election. This is the beginning of corruption, and it should not be allowed in any serious party,” he stated.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng further criticised the party’s failure to critically examine the causes of its electoral defeat, noting that the issues that led to the loss had not been adequately addressed.
“There were issues. We lost the elections badly, and we did not address the problems that led to the losses,” he added.
